“A condition properly diagnosed can be properly healed”
Medical explanation of acne
Acne is one of the most common problems among young people, especially during adolescence, though occasionally the complaint continues beyond adolescence.
According to studies, boys suffer from acne more than girls.
Western medicine views the cause of acne as a hormonal imbalance.
How do you cope with acne?
Teenage acne usually goes away on its own, but if you have an issue with it, or if the breakouts are severe and may leave scars – you should avoid deep-fried foods such as fish, fries, fried sweets, or hot food like chili and curry.
You should avoid alcohol and cut down on chocolate.
In severe cases of chronic acne, treatment with antibiotics prescribed by a Western doctor is an option, but antibiotics often have side effects and over time may even worsen the acne.

Acne in Chinese medicine
Chinese medicine generally views acne as a problem of hot dampness, created as a result of foods that are hot and damp
in nature, overeating, eating late at night, or as a result of an unbalanced digestive system.
This means the spleen and stomach are not functioning properly in digesting and absorbing food, and so the problem of dampness is created. Add to that the fiery emotions, the fire that exists in youth, and so the dampness becomes hot.
At times acne can also be attributed to the lungs, which govern the skin according to Chinese medicine.
Treating acne with Chinese medicine
A Chinese medicine practitioner will investigate the function of the spleen and stomach, needle points that strengthen their role in transforming food into energy and vital substances, combine acupuncture of points that clear toxicity from the body (Chinese medicine views the breakouts themselves as an expression of toxicity), calm the mind, strengthen lung function which affects the skin, and clear dampness.
The effect of the acupuncture becomes visible after several treatments.
